Airport Transit System (ATS) — Free, 24-hour driverless train connecting Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5 with the Multi-Modal Facility (rental cars, economy parking, Metra/Blue Line). Terminal 5 is NOT airside-connected to Terminals 1-3 (no walkway), so transfers to/from T5 require the ATS (or a shuttle bus) plus re-screening through TSA. Terminals 1-3 are connected to each other airside via walkways.
ORD suggests at least Approximately 60 minutes (carrier-set; e.g., United domestic-to-domestic). Terminals 1-3 are connected airside, so domestic-to-domestic connections within them do not require re-screening. for a domestic connection and Approximately 90 minutes for international-to-domestic (e.g., United). Allow extra time (2.5-3 hours recommended) for any connection involving Terminal 5, which requires the ATS plus TSA re-screening; international arrivals must also clear CBP and re-check bags in Terminal 5 (ORD's only Federal Inspection facility). when an international flight is involved.
