Where is security in each terminal at ORD?

Each ORD terminal has its own TSA checkpoint, and the line can be short in one terminal and long in the next. How do you get between terminals at ORD?

Airport Transit System (ATS) — Free, 24-hour driverless train connecting Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5 with the Multi-Modal Facility (rental cars, economy parking, Metra/Blue Line). Terminal 5 is NOT airside-connected to Terminals 1-3 (no walkway), so transfers to/from T5 require the ATS (or a shuttle bus) plus re-screening through TSA. Terminals 1-3 are connected to each other airside via walkways.

What is the minimum connection time at ORD?

ORD suggests at least Approximately 60 minutes (carrier-set; e.g., United domestic-to-domestic). Terminals 1-3 are connected airside, so domestic-to-domestic connections within them do not require re-screening. for a domestic connection and Approximately 90 minutes for international-to-domestic (e.g., United). Allow extra time (2.5-3 hours recommended) for any connection involving Terminal 5, which requires the ATS plus TSA re-screening; international arrivals must also clear CBP and re-check bags in Terminal 5 (ORD's only Federal Inspection facility). when an international flight is involved. ORD has no single airport-wide published MCT; minimum connection times are set per airline. Figures above are typical United values. Arrivals, departures, and getting around ORD

• Departures are usually upstairs. Most ORD terminals put ticketing, bag drop, and security on the upper (departures) level, with baggage claim and pickup below.
• Follow your gate, not just your terminal. Inside security, signs point you to gate numbers and concourses — your boarding pass lists both.
• Accessibility. Elevators, accessible restrooms, and wheelchair assistance are available throughout; ask your airline ahead of time, or look for TSA Cares if you need extra help at screening.
• Picking someone up? Head to baggage claim on the arrivals level — but to catch a flight, everything you need is on the departures side above.
