Predicted

CMH has 3 security checkpoints with TSA PreCheck lanes and CLEAR biometric lanes. Security is busiest 6–8 AM (avg. 23–32 min waits) and 5–7 PM (avg. 12–14 min waits). Use the Leave-By Time calculator to fold the modeled CMH wait forecast, your drive, and gate-walk into one exact departure time.

How many security checkpoints does CMH have?

CMH has 3 security checkpoints across 1 terminal (Main). TSA PreCheck dedicated lanes are available, giving members a faster, bin-free screening experience. PreCheck is open at the main checkpoints during regular screening hours, though an individual lane can close off-peak. CLEAR biometric kiosks are also deployed at CMH, letting enrolled members skip the ID-verification queue entirely. See CLEAR at CMH for details.

When is CMH security busiest?

CMH security lines are typically longest during 6–8 AM (avg. 23–32 min waits) and 5–7 PM (avg. 12–14 min waits). Outside those windows, wait times drop substantially — check the CMH wait forecast for the current picture before you head out. General guidance:

  • Domestic flights: arrive at least 2 hours before departure; 2.5 hours during peak periods.
  • International flights: arrive at least 3 hours before departure to cover check-in, security, and any customs pre-clearance.

Not sure when to leave? The Leave-By Time calculator uses the modeled CMH wait forecast, real-time traffic, and your gate-walk distance to give you an exact departure time. Also see how early to arrive at the airport for a full breakdown by flight type.

Which CMH security checkpoint is fastest?

Concourse A (Southwest-only) tends to be the smallest and least congested checkpoint outside of Southwest's own peak departure banks; Concourse B, the largest concourse, sees the heaviest overall volume..

CLEAR is available at CMH and can be stacked with TSA PreCheck for the fastest path through security: CLEAR handles the biometric ID verification, PreCheck handles the bin-free lane. If you frequently travel through CMH during peak windows, combining both programs is the most effective approach. See CLEAR at CMH for kiosk locations and current status.

What are the top CMH airport security tips?

These tips are specific to Columbus (CMH) and verified against current airport configuration:

  • CMH has three separate security checkpoints — one per concourse (A, B, C) — and they are not connected airside; if your connecting flight leaves from a different concourse, you must exit and re-clear through that concourse's own checkpoint.
  • Checkpoints operate roughly 4am–8pm (Concourse B and C) and 4am–8:30pm (Concourse A); if you're on the first or last flight of the day, confirm your checkpoint is open before you plan your arrival.
  • TSA PreCheck lanes are open at all three checkpoints, and CLEAR is available at all three as well, with on-site enrollment for "PreCheck with CLEAR" if you fly out of CMH often.
  • Arrive at least 90 minutes before domestic departures and 2 hours before CMH's limited international departures (Cancun, Toronto, and seasonal Montreal service).
  • Global Entry members can use Enrollment on Arrival, and Mobile Passport Control is accepted for eligible international arrivals processed through the Concourse C federal inspection facility.

Does CMH have TSA PreCheck?

Yes — CMH has TSA PreCheck lanes at its security checkpoints. PreCheck members keep shoes, belts, light jackets, laptops, and 3-1-1 liquids packed, and pass through a dedicated screening lane. Membership costs $85–$100 for five years and includes a Known Traveler Number (KTN) you add to every booking.

See live PreCheck wait times and current lane status on the CMH TSA PreCheck page. That page also covers which terminals have a PreCheck lane, enrollment locations, and how PreCheck compares to CLEAR and Global Entry at CMH.

Global Entry interviews can be completed at CMH itself — via an on-site enrollment center or Enrollment on Arrival after an international flight — and membership includes TSA PreCheck. See Global Entry at CMH for locations and hours.
