A taxi is the simplest door-to-door option and needs no app. Fares to Downtown Columbus are on the meter, so the total depends on traffic and your exact address.

Taxis line up on the ground transportation level, the lower level outside Baggage Claim. Taxis wait on the ground transportation level. Call the airport Taxi Management team at 614.239.TAXI (8294) with questions.
Picking someone up? Wait free at Cell Phone Waiting Lot. Between the air traffic control tower and the terminal, off International Gateway. A second lot sits west of the terminal off Overlook Drive. Wait there until your traveler texts that they're at the curb, then loop in once. Follow the road signs along International Gateway to the cell phone lot; the entrance is closer to the terminal and the exit is near the tower. Park free and wait, then drive to the curb.
Leaving a car for the trip instead of getting dropped off? It's worth checking the lots: compare CMHparking by price & distance.

Uber and Lyft are available. After you book, go to the Arrivals level (level 1), cross the Arrivals drive to the ground transportation area, and stand between the columns to the right.
Dropping off? Curbside parking is not allowed and cars may be ticketed or towed; you must stay with your vehicle. Use a cell phone lot to wait, or park in the garage to go inside. Columbushas a single terminal, so there's no wrong-curb risk — any door gets you to check-in and security.
CMH sits about 7 miles from Downtown Columbus, a drive of roughly 10–15 minutes via Take I-670 west to reach downtown. The I-270 outerbelt ties in for other parts of the metro — closer to the high end at rush hour. That drive time is the first input into your Leave-By Time, so the calculator counts it backward from your flight along with today's security wait and the walk to your gate.
There is no train. COTA AirConnect is a shuttle from the airport to downtown stops along High Street. It leaves about every 30 minutes from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The stop is outside Baggage Claim on the lower level. COTA fixed-route buses serve the rest of the city.
Fare: $2 one way, exact cash only (operators do not carry change).
A shuttle on the ground transportation level connects to the Rental Car Center. Area hotels also run courtesy shuttles. If a shuttle is part of your plan, add its ride time to your Leave-By Time — it's easy to forget the 15–20 minutes between the curb and the terminal.
The rule of thumb: a round-trip ride is one fixed cost, while parking adds up by the day. For a quick 1–2 day trip, parking usually costs less; for a longer trip, a round-trip taxi or rideshare often comes out ahead.
Want the exact trade-off for your dates? compare CMHparking by price & distance — the closest lot isn't always the one that costs the least.

Terminal levels are step-free by elevator. COTA offers Mainstream paratransit service for riders who cannot use fixed-route buses.
Late or overnight arrival? AirConnect's last ride leaves the airport at 9:30 p.m. Taxis and rideshare are available late into the night.
Returning a rental on the way out? Return rental cars at the Rental Car Center, reached by the free shuttle from the ground transportation level. (We cover where to return a car, not where to book one.)
Recently changed: Downtown construction has closed or moved some AirConnect stops; watch the Next Arrival screen on board. Mileage and drive time are typical estimates. Pickup zones and curb rules change — we verified CMH's ground-transport details as of June 27, 2026. Always check the in-app pickup pin and posted signs when you land.
If a fare or a schedule points you elsewhere, the closest airport we cover is DAY (Dayton), about 71 miles from CMH in a straight line. The same math on this page — drive time, ride cost, security wait — decides whether the extra distance is worth it.
