Accessibility
Wheelchair assistance at William P. Hobby Airport is provided free by your airline — request it at booking for best results. For security screening help, call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel to have a Passenger Support Specialist waiting at the checkpoint. Family lanes, service animal relief areas, and sensory rooms are covered below.

Airline-provided service
Wheelchair assistance
Wheelchair assistance is managed by the airlines, not the airport — contact your airline directly when booking or at least 48 hours before departure to arrange wheelchair or electric-cart service; you can also ask at the ticket counter on arrival at HOU.
Tip: request at booking rather than at the airport — airline wheelchair assistants are in higher demand at peak times and early requests are filled first.
TSA Cares
Free security screening assistance
TSA Cares is a free helpline and on-site assistance program for travelers with disabilities, medical conditions, or other circumstances that may affect the security screening process.
How to use: Call 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel. A Passenger Support Specialist will meet you at the HOU security checkpoint and guide you through screening at no charge.
TSA Cares provides a Passenger Support Specialist to help travelers with disabilities or medical conditions through the HOU security checkpoint. Call the TSA Cares helpline at 1-855-787-2227, or submit a request at tsa.gov, at least 72 hours before you fly.
HOU does not have a permanently signed dedicated family lane at all checkpoints. Ask any TSA agent at the checkpoint for assistance — agents are trained to help travelers with special needs and can route you around standard queue lines.
Two designated relief areas: pre-security at Curbside Zone 4, Level 1 Arrivals, and post-security on Level 2 in the Central Concourse across from Gate 21. As of mid-2026 the Gate 21 relief area is posted as temporarily closed — use the Curbside Zone 4 location until it reopens.
Note: service animals are permitted throughout all airport areas without restriction. Emotional support animals follow individual airline policies — check with your carrier before travel.
HOU does not currently have a confirmed public sensory room. HOU does not yet have a confirmed, open sensory room. Houston Airports opened its first sensory room at IAH (Terminal A, November 2023) and has publicly said a Hobby Airport sensory room is planned, but no opening has been confirmed as of this research. In the meantime, the companion care restroom on Level 2 between Gates 45–47 (next to Starbucks and the Interfaith Chapel) offers a quieter, private space, and all HOU staff are trained in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard program — ask any employee wearing the sunflower symbol for discreet assistance.
No independent on-site wheelchair/scooter rental counter is advertised for HOU. Wheelchairs and electric-cart transport within the terminal are supplied free through your airline — request at booking or at the ticket counter.
Motorized scooters and power wheelchairs are generally available from airlines for gate-to-gate use; contact your carrier directly if you need a motorized device beyond a standard transport chair.
Pro Tip
Because HOU's wheelchair service is airline-run rather than airport-run, book it directly with your airline (not a third-party travel site) and reconfirm at the ticket counter — this avoids the most common failure point, which is assistance requests getting lost between booking sites and the airline's own system.
Is wheelchair assistance free at HOU airport?
Yes — wheelchair assistance at HOU is provided free of charge by your airline or their contracted ground handler. Request it at booking or check-in. The airline arranges and covers the cost; no tipping is required, though it is appreciated.
How do I contact TSA Cares before my flight from HOU?
Call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before your flight. The helpline is open weekdays 8 a.m.–11 p.m. ET and weekends/holidays 9 a.m.–8 p.m. ET. You can also submit a request online at tsa.gov/contact-center/form/cares. A Passenger Support Specialist will meet you at the HOU security checkpoint at no cost.
Does HOU airport have a family security lane?
William P. Hobby Airport does not have a permanently signed dedicated family lane at all checkpoints, but TSA officers are trained to accommodate travelers who need extra time. Houston Airports' official HOU security page does not publicize a dedicated family/special-assistance lane. The Main Terminal checkpoint offers CLEAR+, TSA PreCheck, and standard lanes, plus modified pat-downs for children 12 and under. Ask any TSA officer at the checkpoint for family accommodation, or arrange support in advance through TSA Cares.
Where is the service animal relief area at HOU airport?
Two designated relief areas: pre-security at Curbside Zone 4, Level 1 Arrivals, and post-security on Level 2 in the Central Concourse across from Gate 21. As of mid-2026 the Gate 21 relief area is posted as temporarily closed — use the Curbside Zone 4 location until it reopens. Service animals are permitted throughout all airport areas without restriction. Emotional support animals follow your individual airline's policies.
