Each AUS terminal has its own TSA checkpoint, and the line can be short in one terminal and long in the next. Before you pick when to leave, check wait times by terminal and head to the fastest open lane. Not sure how long to budget? How long does airport security really take breaks it down by the hour.
AUS is now effectively a single-terminal airport (Barbara Jordan Terminal only) following the permanent closure of the South Terminal on April 1, 2026 (final operating day March 31, 2026). There is no automated people mover; the terminal is walkable end-to-end across its East Concourse (gates 1-13), central gates, and West Concourse (gates 24-34). The courtesy inter-terminal/parking shuttle that previously linked the main terminal to the former South Terminal has been discontinued with the closure.
Give yourself a real cushion to connect at AUS: about 45–60 minutes for a domestic-to-domestic connection, and 90 minutes or more when international travel or a terminal change is involved. See our full guide to minimum connection time.
Lounges, dining, and shops live inside each terminal past security — handy once you're through, but they shouldn't change when you leave home. Browsing other airports? TSA wait times by airport lists them all.
