Each ATL terminal has its own TSA checkpoint, and the line can be short in one terminal and long in the next. Before you pick when to leave, check wait times by terminal and head to the fastest open lane. Not sure how long to budget? How long does airport security really take breaks it down by the hour.
The Plane Train — Runs 24/7 underground through the Transportation Mall, departing roughly every 2 minutes, connecting the Domestic Terminal (baggage level) with Concourses T, A, B, C, D, E and the International Terminal (Concourse F). A parallel pedestrian tunnel with moving walkways runs alongside, so every concourse is reachable airside from either terminal. Landside, a free shuttle bus links the two terminals (~12 min) and MARTA rail also serves the Domestic Terminal.
ATL suggests at least 35 minutes (Delta-published minimum connection time at its ATL hub) for a domestic connection and International-to-domestic ~90 minutes (1h30m, Delta-published); allow ~3 hours for inbound international connections because of immigration/customs re-clear when an international flight is involved. ATL publishes no single airport-wide MCT; figures shown are Delta's published hub connection minimums (Delta is the dominant carrier). All concourses connect via the Plane Train, but international-to-domestic and international-to-international connecting passengers must re-clear security after customs. Give yourself more if you change terminals. See our full guide to minimum connection time.
Lounges, dining, and shops live inside each terminal past security — handy once you're through, but they shouldn't change when you leave home. Browsing other airports? TSA wait times by airport lists them all.
