Accessibility
Wheelchair assistance at Tucson International Airport is provided free by your airline — request it at booking for best results. For security screening help, call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel to have a Passenger Support Specialist waiting at the checkpoint. Family lanes, service animal relief areas, and sensory rooms are covered below.

Airline-provided service
Wheelchair assistance
Request wheelchair assistance directly through your airline — either when booking or by calling the airline ahead of your trip; curbside wheelchair-accessible cuts are provided at the drop-off zone in front of the terminal for departing passengers.
Tip: request at booking rather than at the airport — airline wheelchair assistants are in higher demand at peak times and early requests are filled first.
TSA Cares
Free security screening assistance
TSA Cares is a free helpline and on-site assistance program for travelers with disabilities, medical conditions, or other circumstances that may affect the security screening process.
How to use: Call 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel. A Passenger Support Specialist will meet you at the TUS security checkpoint and guide you through screening at no charge.
Call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before your flight, or submit a request at tsa.gov/contact-center/form/cares, and a Passenger Support Specialist can meet you at the checkpoint. TSA officers at both the A Gates and B Gates checkpoints are also prepared to assist passengers using wheelchairs or strollers, including their traveling companions and service animals, without advance notice.
TUS does not have a permanently signed dedicated family lane at all checkpoints. Ask any TSA agent at the checkpoint for assistance — agents are trained to help travelers with special needs and can route you around standard queue lines.
Pre-security: outdoor relief areas outside the east and west ends of the lower-level baggage claim (near the exit doors toward the parking lots by carousels 1 and 7), including the "Prickly Paws Pet Stop" at the east end. Post-security: designated relief areas are located immediately after the checkpoint on both Concourse A and Concourse B. Plastic bags and waste containers are provided at each location.
Note: service animals are permitted throughout all airport areas without restriction. Emotional support animals follow individual airline policies — check with your carrier before travel.
TUS does not currently have a confirmed public sensory room. TUS does not publicize a dedicated sensory or quiet room. Travelers with a nonvisible disability can pick up a free Hidden Disability Sunflower Program lanyard at any ticketing counter or the TAA badging office (1st floor) to signal staff they may need extra time or support; for a quieter space, ask any airport ambassador (purple vest) or gate agent, or arrange TSA Cares in advance (1-855-787-2227).
TUS does not operate its own on-site wheelchair/scooter rental counter — wheelchairs for use inside the terminal are provided free through your airline. Rental smart luggage carts are available terminal-wide for $6 (25-cent refund on return). For a personal mobility device rental in the Tucson area, Mobility Plus (520-225-0415) offers wheelchair and scooter rentals.
Motorized scooters and power wheelchairs are generally available from airlines for gate-to-gate use; contact your carrier directly if you need a motorized device beyond a standard transport chair.
Pro Tip
Because TUS is a compact single terminal with two checkpoints (A Gates and B Gates) and short concourses, distances to gates are short compared to major hub airports — but curbside and gate-wheelchair staffing can still be limited outside peak flight banks, so confirm assistance with your airline 24–48 hours ahead and arrive with extra buffer time.
Is wheelchair assistance free at TUS airport?
Yes — wheelchair assistance at TUS is provided free of charge by your airline or their contracted ground handler. Request it at booking or check-in. The airline arranges and covers the cost; no tipping is required, though it is appreciated.
How do I contact TSA Cares before my flight from TUS?
Call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before your flight. The helpline is open weekdays 8 a.m.–11 p.m. ET and weekends/holidays 9 a.m.–8 p.m. ET. You can also submit a request online at tsa.gov/contact-center/form/cares. A Passenger Support Specialist will meet you at the TUS security checkpoint at no cost.
Does TUS airport have a family security lane?
Tucson International Airport does not have a permanently signed dedicated family lane at all checkpoints, but TSA officers are trained to accommodate travelers who need extra time. TUS's official accessibility and security pages do not advertise a dedicated family/special-assistance screening lane at either the A Gates or B Gates checkpoint. If you need extra time, tell the TSA officer at the checkpoint directly, or arrange a TSA Cares Passenger Support Specialist in advance (1-855-787-2227) to be escorted through screening.
Where is the service animal relief area at TUS airport?
Pre-security: outdoor relief areas outside the east and west ends of the lower-level baggage claim (near the exit doors toward the parking lots by carousels 1 and 7), including the "Prickly Paws Pet Stop" at the east end. Post-security: designated relief areas are located immediately after the checkpoint on both Concourse A and Concourse B. Plastic bags and waste containers are provided at each location. Service animals are permitted throughout all airport areas without restriction. Emotional support animals follow your individual airline's policies.
