St. Thomas (STT) Airport Shopping

Shopping at Cyril E. King Airport spans convenience staples at Hudson News and tech accessories at InMotion through to local specialty gifts and duty-free for international travelers. See each section below for exact locations by concourse or terminal.

Diagram of duty-free shopping with sealed liquid bags and the rules for carrying them through connections.
Duty-free liquids must stay in the sealed store bag to clear security on international connecting flights.

Duty-free shopping

Cardow Liquor Store operates both a Departures store (in the Domestic Passenger Lounge, focused on rums, souvenir bottles, and super-premium spirits) and a smaller Arrivals store (mainstream liquor brands) in the baggage claim area. Because the USVI has special U.S. customs status, returning U.S. residents get a $1,600 duty-free allowance — well above the standard $800 — making STT's liquor shops genuinely worthwhile, not just symbolic.

US duty-free allowance

US residents may bring back $800 in duty-free goods per person. Liquids purchased at duty-free must be in the original sealed store bag when transiting international connections — otherwise they may be confiscated at the connecting airport security checkpoint.

Books & magazines

Island News & Gifts (Domestic Passenger Lounge) carries magazines, postcards, and reading material alongside souvenirs — there is no dedicated bookstore chain like Hudson News or WHSmith at STT.

Convenience & travel essentials

Island News & Gifts covers general convenience and souvenir needs; Tobaccoist (Arrivals Baggage Claim) sells cigarettes, cigars, and tobacco accessories.

Hudson News is at most gate areas throughout Cyril E. King Airport — a reliable last-minute stop for charging cables, snacks, OTC medicine, and reading material before any departure.

Tech & electronics

None. STT has no InMotion Entertainment, Best Buy Express, or comparable electronics/tech kiosk — this is a small Caribbean terminal without a dedicated tech retailer.

Best Buy Express kiosks carry Apple accessories, Bose headphones, and phone chargers at most major US airports. InMotion Entertainment is the other key tech stop — open at most gate clusters and stocked with travel-oriented electronics essentials.

Fashion & specialty retail

Sandals for Your Neck (Domestic Passenger Lounge) sells island-themed and handmade jewelry — necklaces, bracelets, earrings — rather than apparel. Charlie's Beauty Salon & Retail (Arrivals) covers cosmetics, skincare, and hair/nail products. There is no general apparel or fashion retailer at the airport.

Best shopping area

The Domestic Passenger Lounge (post-security, serving Gates 1–9) has nearly every retail option at STT — Cardow's Departures liquor store, Fragrance Lab, Island News & Gifts, and Sandals for Your Neck are all there, versus just three shops pre-security at Arrivals Baggage Claim.

Pro Tip

Buy rum and other spirits at Cardow after security, not before — the Departures store carries the bigger premium/souvenir selection, and thanks to the USVI's elevated $1,600 duty-free allowance for returning U.S. residents, this is one of the few U.S. airports where the duty-free liquor deal is actually worth planning around.
