Request wheelchair assistance from your airline at booking or at the check-in counter; airline-contracted agents meet passengers at the ticket counter, gate, or jet bridge. Third-party ground operators such as GO Puerto Rico Shuttle are also authorized by Aerostar Airports to greet and assist arriving passengers inside the terminal.

Tip: request at booking rather than at the airport — airline wheelchair assistants are in higher demand at peak times and early requests are filled first.

TSA Cares is a free helpline and on-site assistance program for travelers with disabilities, medical conditions, or other circumstances that may affect the security screening process.

How to use: Call 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel. A Passenger Support Specialist will meet you at the SJU security checkpoint and guide you through screening at no charge.

Service animal relief areas

A service animal/pet relief area is in Terminal B opposite Gate B2. If you're departing from Terminal A, C, or D, ask any airport or airline employee for directions — the Terminal B location is the only one confirmed post-security.

Note: service animals are permitted throughout all airport areas without restriction. Emotional support animals follow individual airline policies — check with your carrier before travel.

Quiet and sensory room

SJU does not currently have a confirmed public sensory room. SJU does not have a dedicated sensory or quiet room. Travelers who need a calmer screening experience should arrange TSA Cares assistance in advance (1-855-787-2227); airline or Aerostar guest-service staff can also point you to quieter seating away from the main concourse crowds.

Wheelchair and mobility device rentals

The airport itself does not run a wheelchair/scooter rental counter — wheelchair assistance through the terminal is arranged free through your airline. For a personal mobility scooter or wheelchair delivered to your hotel or the airport ahead of your trip, third-party services such as Special Needs at Sea (954-585-0575) cover the San Juan area.

Motorized scooters and power wheelchairs are generally available from airlines for gate-to-gate use; contact your carrier directly if you need a motorized device beyond a standard transport chair.

Because Terminal A runs on a completely separate check-in and security checkpoint from the consolidated B/C/D checkpoint, anyone needing mobility assistance on a tight connection between Terminal A and the rest of the airport should request an escort well in advance — the two sides are not linked airside, so the transfer takes real time.
