Rideshare & Ground Transport
Rideshare pickup at SFO is not always at the arrivals curb — most airports now route Uber and Lyft to a dedicated lot or garage. Here is exactly where to go, how to get there, and how to keep the fare reasonable.

Domestic terminals: Domestic Garage Level 5 via sky-bridge. International Terminal: Zones 14–17 on the Departures Level center island.

In the app
Select 'SFO' and your terminal type (Domestic or International) in the app; domestic riders head to Garage Level 5, international to Departures Level center island
From domestic terminals cross the sky-bridge to Level 5 of the Domestic Garage and follow 'Rideshare' signs; from the International Terminal go up to the Departures Level and find the center island Zones 14–17.
Cell Phone Lot
The Cell Phone Lot is at 806 S Airport Blvd, South San Francisco — follow signs from US-101; 5–8 min drive to any terminal. Cell phone lot details →
When surge peaks: Surge spikes Friday 4–7pm (tech commuter exodus), Sunday 4–8pm, and during major Bay Area conferences (Dreamforce, Oracle OpenWorld); fog delays cluster arrivals and compress driver supply.
Wait tip
International passengers must use the Departures Level center island (Zones 14–17) — not the domestic garage; confirm your zone in the app before leaving baggage claim.
Rideshare is usually the fastest door-to-door option, but it is not always the cheapest — especially during surge.
| Option | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Rideshare Uber / Lyft | Door-to-door convenience, groups with bags, no cash needed | Surge pricing on busy evenings & events; long walk to pickup lot |
| Taxi Metered cab | Predictable metered fare during surge, no app required | Often more expensive off-peak; cash sometimes required |
| Transit Train / bus | Lowest cost option, immune to surge pricing and traffic | Not available at every airport; less practical with luggage |
