Accessibility
Wheelchair assistance at Santa Barbara Airport is provided free by your airline — request it at booking for best results. For security screening help, call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel to have a Passenger Support Specialist waiting at the checkpoint. Family lanes, service animal relief areas, and sensory rooms are covered below.

Airline-provided service
Wheelchair assistance
Request wheelchair assistance directly through your airline — at booking or at the check-in counter — since SBA does not run a separate airport-operated wheelchair service; the airport's accessibility page directs all wheelchair and airline-related requests to the airline itself.
Tip: request at booking rather than at the airport — airline wheelchair assistants are in higher demand at peak times and early requests are filled first.
TSA Cares
Free security screening assistance
TSA Cares is a free helpline and on-site assistance program for travelers with disabilities, medical conditions, or other circumstances that may affect the security screening process.
How to use: Call 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel. A Passenger Support Specialist will meet you at the SBA security checkpoint and guide you through screening at no charge.
Call the TSA Cares helpline at 1-855-787-2227 (weekdays 8am-11pm ET, weekends/holidays 9am-8pm ET) at least 72 hours before your flight, or submit a request at tsa.gov/contact-center/form/cares, to arrange a Passenger Support Specialist to help you through SBA's single checkpoint.
SBA does not have a permanently signed dedicated family lane at all checkpoints. Ask any TSA agent at the checkpoint for assistance — agents are trained to help travelers with special needs and can route you around standard queue lines.
A designated service-animal relief area is outside the north entrance of the Terminal (pre-security), on the right side. The airport confirms there is no pet/service-animal relief area inside the terminal, including past the security checkpoint.
Note: service animals are permitted throughout all airport areas without restriction. Emotional support animals follow individual airline policies — check with your carrier before travel.
SBA does not currently have a confirmed public sensory room. SBA does not have a dedicated sensory or quiet room, but it participates in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program: free sunflower lanyards signal to staff that a passenger may need extra help, understanding, or time. Request one in advance via the airport's online form, or contact Airport Facilities Manager Andrew Bermond at (805) 692-4803 / ABermond@SantaBarbaraCA.gov (48 hours' notice recommended) to arrange other accommodations.
There is no on-site wheelchair/scooter rental counter at the airport; wheelchairs for terminal use come from your airline on request. For an extended rental during a Santa Barbara trip, local companies such as Santa Barbara Mobility LLC and Cloud of Goods deliver scooters and wheelchairs to hotels and, by arrangement, the airport.
Motorized scooters and power wheelchairs are generally available from airlines for gate-to-gate use; contact your carrier directly if you need a motorized device beyond a standard transport chair.
Pro Tip
SBA's small size works in your favor — ticketing, baggage claim, the single checkpoint, and all five gates are close together on just two floors — but that also means there's no alternate route if the one checkpoint is busy. Request wheelchair assistance at booking, confirm with your airline before travel, and ask about the free Sunflower lanyard in advance if you have a non-visible disability.
Is wheelchair assistance free at SBA airport?
Yes — wheelchair assistance at SBA is provided free of charge by your airline or their contracted ground handler. Request it at booking or check-in. The airline arranges and covers the cost; no tipping is required, though it is appreciated.
How do I contact TSA Cares before my flight from SBA?
Call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before your flight. The helpline is open weekdays 8 a.m.–11 p.m. ET and weekends/holidays 9 a.m.–8 p.m. ET. You can also submit a request online at tsa.gov/contact-center/form/cares. A Passenger Support Specialist will meet you at the SBA security checkpoint at no cost.
Does SBA airport have a family security lane?
Santa Barbara Airport does not have a permanently signed dedicated family lane at all checkpoints, but TSA officers are trained to accommodate travelers who need extra time. SBA does not publicize a dedicated family/special-assistance security lane — the airport has one checkpoint on the second floor of the terminal. Ask any TSA officer on duty; they will accommodate families and travelers needing extra time or assistance through the regular lanes.
Where is the service animal relief area at SBA airport?
A designated service-animal relief area is outside the north entrance of the Terminal (pre-security), on the right side. The airport confirms there is no pet/service-animal relief area inside the terminal, including past the security checkpoint. Service animals are permitted throughout all airport areas without restriction. Emotional support animals follow your individual airline's policies.
