Milwaukee (MKE) Airport Accessibility & Wheelchair Services

Wheelchair assistance at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is provided free by your airline — request it at booking for best results. For security screening help, call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel to have a Passenger Support Specialist waiting at the checkpoint. Family lanes, service animal relief areas, and sensory rooms are covered below.

Step-by-step path for requesting and receiving wheelchair assistance through an airport.
The wheelchair-assistance path: request at booking, meet your attendant at check-in, then escort through security to the gate.

Airline-provided service

Wheelchair assistance

Request wheelchair assistance through your airline when booking or at check-in; airlines coordinate service through Passenger Service Assistants (skycap-style attendants). A phone number is posted at curbside for wheelchair assistance, and valet/curbside attendants can summon a Passenger Service Assistant directly.

Tip: request at booking rather than at the airport — airline wheelchair assistants are in higher demand at peak times and early requests are filled first.

TSA Cares

Free security screening assistance

TSA Cares is a free helpline and on-site assistance program for travelers with disabilities, medical conditions, or other circumstances that may affect the security screening process.

How to use: Call 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel. A Passenger Support Specialist will meet you at the MKE security checkpoint and guide you through screening at no charge.

Call the national TSA Cares helpline at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel, or submit a request through the TSA Cares form (linked from MKE's Security/TSA page) so a TSA officer can meet you and assist through screening at either the Concourse C or Concourse D checkpoint.

Security lanes

MKE does not have a permanently signed dedicated family lane at all checkpoints. Ask any TSA agent at the checkpoint for assistance — agents are trained to help travelers with special needs and can route you around standard queue lines.

Service animal relief areas

Pre-security: in the Concession Mall near the Miller Brewhouse (Main Terminal). Post-security: Concourse C (across from Gate C14) and Concourse D (between Gates D34 and D36). Outdoor pet relief areas are also available near American Airlines ticketing and at both ends of baggage claim.

Note: service animals are permitted throughout all airport areas without restriction. Emotional support animals follow individual airline policies — check with your carrier before travel.

Quiet and sensory room

MKE does not currently have a confirmed public sensory room. MKE does not have a dedicated sensory/quiet room for autism or sensory-processing needs. It does have a general Meditation Room on Level 3 near the Daily Parking covered walkway for quiet reflection and prayer. MKE participates in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program — pick up a sunflower lanyard at the pre-security Airport Information desk to discreetly signal you or a companion may need extra assistance. For specific accommodation questions, contact the ADA Coordinator at 414-747-3889 or srana@mitchellairport.com.

Wheelchair and mobility device rentals

No independent wheelchair or scooter rental company/kiosk is advertised at MKE. Airport wheelchairs are provided at no cost through your airline's Passenger Service Assistants — request at booking or at the curb/ticket counter, or ask any airline agent for on-the-spot assistance.

Motorized scooters and power wheelchairs are generally available from airlines for gate-to-gate use; contact your carrier directly if you need a motorized device beyond a standard transport chair.

Pro Tip

Pick up a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard at the pre-security Information desk if you or a companion has a non-visible disability — MKE staff are trained to recognize it. The airport is compact (one terminal, two concourses, gates C9-C25 and D27-D56), so walking distances to gates are short even without cart service.

Frequently asked questions

Is wheelchair assistance free at MKE airport?

Yes — wheelchair assistance at MKE is provided free of charge by your airline or their contracted ground handler. Request it at booking or check-in. The airline arranges and covers the cost; no tipping is required, though it is appreciated.

How do I contact TSA Cares before my flight from MKE?

Call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before your flight. The helpline is open weekdays 8 a.m.–11 p.m. ET and weekends/holidays 9 a.m.–8 p.m. ET.
