Stay with your car; unattended vehicles are towed.
Leaving a car for the trip instead of getting dropped off? It's worth checking the lots: compare MCIparking by price & distance.

Iris, Lyft, Turo, Uber, and zTrip pick up on the lower-level Arrivals curb near the purple signposts 2K-N. There are only a few rideshare spots, so wait until you see your car pull in before stepping out. Drivers stage at a separate lot at 684 Brasilia Ave.
Dropping off? Drop off on the upper-level Departures curb and pick up on the lower-level Arrivals curb. No parking or waiting at the curb. Kansas Cityhas a single terminal, so there's no wrong-curb risk — any door gets you to check-in and security.
MCI sits about 19 miles from Downtown Kansas City, a drive of roughly 20–35 minutes via I-29 South to downtown Kansas City — closer to the high end at rush hour. That drive time is the first input into your Leave-By Time, so the calculator counts it backward from your flight along with today's security wait and the walk to your gate.
No train serves the airport. RideKC's Route 229 (Boardwalk-KCI) links the single terminal with the Boardwalk transfer station and the Northland, and is currently free. Reaching downtown takes about an hour with a transfer.
Fare: Free at this time.
Free 24/7 shuttles run to parking: Blue buses to the Economy lots every 15-20 minutes and Gray buses to the Rental Car Facility every 5-10 minutes. If a shuttle is part of your plan, add its ride time to your Leave-By Time — it's easy to forget the 15–20 minutes between the curb and the terminal.
The rule of thumb: a round-trip ride is one fixed cost, while parking adds up by the day. For a quick 1–2 day trip, parking usually costs less; for a longer trip, a round-trip taxi or rideshare often comes out ahead.

All parking shuttles are wheelchair accessible and can kneel for easier boarding. Call 816-243-5201 for help.
Late or overnight arrival? The terminal is open 24 hours and parking shuttles run around the clock. The 229 bus runs limited hours, so check the schedule late at night.
Returning a rental on the way out? Rental cars are at the Consolidated Rental Car Facility (1 Nassau Circle). Free Gray Bus shuttles run between it and the terminal 24/7. (We cover where to return a car, not where to book one.)
Recently changed: MCI opened its new single terminal in February 2023. Pickup zones and curb rules change — we verified MCI's ground-transport details as of June 27, 2026. Always check the in-app pickup pin and posted signs when you land.
If a fare or a schedule points you elsewhere, the closest airport we cover is OMA (Omaha), about 152 miles from MCI in a straight line. The same math on this page — drive time, ride cost, security wait — decides whether the extra distance is worth it.
