A taxi is the simplest door-to-door option and needs no app. Fares to Downtown Lexington are on the meter, so the total depends on traffic and your exact address.

Travelers waiting in line at an airport taxi stand as cabs pull forward one at a time.
At the taxi stand, riders queue and a dispatcher sends the next cab forward — no app needed, and the fare runs on the meter.

Taxis and limos are available curbside on Level 1 when exiting baggage claim. A $2.00 airport fee is added to every taxi fare originating at the airport.

The LEX cell-phone waiting lot

Picking someone up? Wait free at Cell Phone Waiting Area. Free cell-phone waiting area a short drive from the terminal, next to the Lextran bus stop. Wait there until your traveler texts that they're at the curb, then loop in once. Wait in the lot until your passenger calls, then pull to the Level 1 curb.

Leaving a car for the trip instead of getting dropped off? It's worth checking the lots: compare LEXparking by price & distance.

At the free cell-phone lot you wait off-airport until your traveler has their bags, then make a single loop to the curb.

Where to catch Uber & Lyft at LEX

Uber and Lyft use the designated Ride App Pick-Up located between the terminal and the rental-car facility.

Dropping off? Drop departing passengers at the terminal curb on Level 1. Lexingtonhas a single terminal, so there's no wrong-curb risk — any door gets you to check-in and security.

Driving to LEX — routes & drive time

LEX sits about 6 miles from Downtown Lexington, a drive of roughly 10–15 minutes via Man o' War Boulevard and Versailles Road (US-60) into downtown Lexington — closer to the high end at rush hour. That drive time is the first input into your Leave-By Time, so the calculator counts it backward from your flight along with today's security wait and the walk to your gate.

Getting to LEX by train or transit

No rail serves the airport. Lextran runs an express bus from the terminal to the downtown Transit Center on Vine Street, Monday to Friday roughly 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, boarding next to the cell-phone waiting area.

Fare: Fare is $1.75.

Hotel and city shuttles to LEX

Many local hotels offer complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport. If a shuttle is part of your plan, add its ride time to your Leave-By Time — it's easy to forget the 15–20 minutes between the curb and the terminal.

Park or ride to LEX?

The rule of thumb: a round-trip ride is one fixed cost, while parking adds up by the day. For a quick 1–2 day trip, parking usually costs less; for a longer trip, a round-trip taxi or rideshare often comes out ahead.

Want the exact trade-off for your dates? compare LEXparking by price & distance — the closest lot isn't always the one that costs the least.

Comparing airport ground-transport options by cost, speed, and convenience
Taxi, rideshare, transit, and park-and-ride each trade off cost against speed and convenience — the right pick depends on your trip length and group size.

Accessibility and late-night rides at LEX

Lextran buses are wheelchair accessible, and accessible taxis are available on request.

Late or overnight arrival? Taxis and rideshare meet flights; the Lextran express runs weekday daytime hours only.

Returning a rental on the way out? Return rental cars at the on-airport facility adjacent to the terminal. (We cover where to return a car, not where to book one.)

Pickup zones and curb rules change — we verified LEX's ground-transport details as of July 1, 2026. Always check the in-app pickup pin and posted signs when you land.

Flying out of a nearby airport instead?

If a fare or a schedule points you elsewhere, the closest airport we cover is SDF (Louisville), about 62 miles from LEX in a straight line. The same math on this page — drive time, ride cost, security wait — decides whether the extra distance is worth it.
