Rideshare & Ground Transport

Uber & Lyft Pickup at Washington Dulles International Airport

Rideshare pickup at IAD is not always at the arrivals curb — most airports now route Uber and Lyft to a dedicated lot or garage. Here is exactly where to go, how to get there, and how to keep the fare reasonable.

Pickup and drop-off often sit on different curb levels — arrivals below, departures above — so follow signs to the right level.

In the app

Select 'IAD Dulles' in the app; pickup is at the lower-level Arrivals curb, north end of the main terminal.

How to find the rideshare zone

Exit baggage claim and follow 'Ground Transportation / Rideshare' signs to the lower-level Arrivals curb; pickup is on the north end near the Ground Transportation plaza.

The Cell Phone Lot is on Autopilot Dr just north of the terminal loop — follow airport signs; 2–3 min drive to the Arrivals curb. Cell phone lot details →

Avoiding surge pricing at IAD

When surge peaks: Surge peaks Friday evenings 4–8pm, Sunday evenings 5–9pm, and during international arrival waves (7–10am) from overnight transatlantic flights; government contract travel Monday mornings also drives steady demand.

Wait tip

Dulles has a large Arrivals curb — share your precise door number with your driver; the curb is 800+ ft long and drivers lose time scanning for passengers; request only after exiting the terminal.

Compare your options

Rideshare is usually the fastest door-to-door option, but it is not always the cheapest — especially during surge.
