Accessibility
Wheelchair assistance at Key West International Airport is provided free by your airline — request it at booking for best results. For security screening help, call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel to have a Passenger Support Specialist waiting at the checkpoint. Family lanes, service animal relief areas, and sensory rooms are covered below.

Airline-provided service
Wheelchair assistance
Request wheelchair assistance through your airline at booking or at the check-in counter; airline ground staff provide curbside, terminal, and gate-to-plane assistance since EYW does not run a separate airport-operated wheelchair service.
Tip: request at booking rather than at the airport — airline wheelchair assistants are in higher demand at peak times and early requests are filled first.
TSA Cares
Free security screening assistance
TSA Cares is a free helpline and on-site assistance program for travelers with disabilities, medical conditions, or other circumstances that may affect the security screening process.
How to use: Call 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before travel. A Passenger Support Specialist will meet you at the EYW security checkpoint and guide you through screening at no charge.
Call the TSA Cares helpline at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before your flight, or submit a request at tsa.gov/contact-center/form/cares, to arrange a Passenger Support Specialist to meet you at EYW's single checkpoint and help you through screening.
EYW does not have a permanently signed dedicated family lane at all checkpoints. Ask any TSA agent at the checkpoint for assistance — agents are trained to help travelers with special needs and can route you around standard queue lines.
Pre-security: a designated pet/service-animal relief area with waste bags and trash receptacles is outside the Arrivals/Baggage Claim area near the blue curbside pickup zone. Post-security: a newer relief facility is near the restrooms in the downstairs Departures Terminal (Concourse A).
Note: service animals are permitted throughout all airport areas without restriction. Emotional support animals follow individual airline policies — check with your carrier before travel.
EYW does not currently have a confirmed public sensory room. EYW does not have a dedicated sensory or quiet room. Call Airport Administration at (305) 809-5200 ahead of travel, or ask your airline, to arrange a quieter waiting area if needed — the small single-concourse terminal makes informal accommodation easier to find than at a large hub.
There is no on-site wheelchair/scooter rental counter at the airport; wheelchairs for terminal use are provided by your airline on request. For an extended rental during your Key West trip, third-party mobility companies (e.g., Island Comfort Mobility, Cloud of Goods) deliver scooters and wheelchairs to hotels or, by prior arrangement, the airport.
Motorized scooters and power wheelchairs are generally available from airlines for gate-to-gate use; contact your carrier directly if you need a motorized device beyond a standard transport chair.
Pro Tip
EYW's small size works in your favor for accessibility — everything from curb to gate is close together — but its single checkpoint and single concourse mean there is no alternate route if something is closed or crowded. Request assistance at booking, confirm with your airline before travel, and arrive a little early since ground-staff teams here are small.
Is wheelchair assistance free at EYW airport?
Yes — wheelchair assistance at EYW is provided free of charge by your airline or their contracted ground handler. Request it at booking or check-in. The airline arranges and covers the cost; no tipping is required, though it is appreciated.
How do I contact TSA Cares before my flight from EYW?
Call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before your flight. The helpline is open weekdays 8 a.m.–11 p.m. ET and weekends/holidays 9 a.m.–8 p.m. ET. You can also submit a request online at tsa.gov/contact-center/form/cares. A Passenger Support Specialist will meet you at the EYW security checkpoint at no cost.
Does EYW airport have a family security lane?
Key West International Airport does not have a permanently signed dedicated family lane at all checkpoints, but TSA officers are trained to accommodate travelers who need extra time. EYW does not publicize a dedicated family/special-assistance security lane — the airport has one checkpoint (four screening lanes as of the December 2025 upgrade). Ask any TSA officer on duty; they will route families and travelers needing extra time or accommodation through the regular lanes.
Where is the service animal relief area at EYW airport?
Pre-security: a designated pet/service-animal relief area with waste bags and trash receptacles is outside the Arrivals/Baggage Claim area near the blue curbside pickup zone. Post-security: a newer relief facility is near the restrooms in the downstairs Departures Terminal (Concourse A). Service animals are permitted throughout all airport areas without restriction. Emotional support animals follow your individual airline's policies.
