Getting to and from CLT: taxi, rideshare, transit & the cell-phone lot

Picking someone up? Wait free at Cell Phone Lot. Free lot on Josh Birmingham Parkway near Long-Term Lot 1. Wait there until your traveler texts that they're at the curb, then loop in once. From the terminal loop follow Josh Birmingham Parkway toward the long-term lots; the Cell Phone Lot is signed near Long-Term Lot 1, then drive to the lower Arrivals level for pickup.

Uber and Lyft pick up on the lower Arrivals level — Uber at Zone E and Lyft at Zone D (a pre-approved meeting point). Do not wait at the Cell Phone Lot for an Uber/Lyft — that lot is only for personal pickups; rideshare riders go to the marked Zone D/E meeting points on the Arrivals level.

Dropping off? Departing passengers are dropped at the upper Ticketing/Departures-level curb. CLT has 5 terminals (A, B, C, D, E), so confirm your airline's before your driver commits to a curb — find your terminal at CLT.

CLT sits about 7 miles from Uptown Charlotte, a drive of roughly 15–25 minutes via Billy Graham Parkway to I-77 North, then I-277 (Brookshire Freeway) — closer to the high end at rush hour. That drive time is the first input into your Leave-By Time, so the calculator counts it backward from your flight along with today's security wait and the walk to your gate.

CLT has no rail link to the terminal (the LYNX Silver Line is years away and would stop about a mile off); the public option is the CATS Airport Sprinter (Route 5) bus from the airport to the Charlotte Transportation Center in Uptown, about 25-35 minutes for $2.20, running roughly every 20-30 minutes on weekdays.

Hotel courtesy shuttles and off-airport parking vans load at the marked Courtesy Vehicle area on the Arrivals level; the CATS Sprinter bus is the public route to Uptown. If a shuttle is part of your plan, add its ride time to your Leave-By Time — it's easy to forget the 15–20 minutes between the curb and the terminal.

Here's the math. Parking starts around $6/day, while a round-trip taxi or rideshare to Uptown Charlotte runs about $64. So a round trip by car comes out ahead once you're away more than about 11 days — for a quick trip, parking usually costs less; for a long one, getting a ride does.

Wheelchair-accessible taxis are available at the taxi stand (best reserved ahead) and Uber WAV / Lyft Access can be requested in-app; ADA pickups use the Arrivals-level curb.

Late or overnight arrival? The Sprinter bus and the taxi-stand attendant stop around midnight; after that, Uber/Lyft and taxis remain available overnight.
