Rideshare & Ground Transport

Uber & Lyft Pickup at Raleigh–Durham International Airport

Rideshare pickup at RDU is not always at the arrivals curb — most airports now route Uber and Lyft to a dedicated lot or garage. Here is exactly where to go, how to get there, and how to keep the fare reasonable.

Most airports route Uber and Lyft to a dedicated pickup lot or garage rather than the arrivals curb.

Where to get picked up at RDU

UUber Pickup Zone

Terminal 1: Arrivals Level, designated 'Ride App' lane at the outer curbside. Terminal 2: Arrivals Level, 'Ride App' zone at the outer curbside.

LLyft Pickup Zone

Same Arrivals Level curbside zones as Uber at both terminals.

Pickup and drop-off often sit on different curb levels — arrivals below, departures above — so follow signs to the right level.

In the app

Enter 'RDU Raleigh-Durham' in the app; select Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 matching your arrival; both have curbside pickup.

How to find the rideshare zone

Exit baggage claim at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 to the Arrivals Level outer curb; 'Ride App / TNC' lanes are clearly signed directly outside the baggage claim doors.

Cell Phone Lot

The Cell Phone Lot is on Aviation Pkwy loop — follow 'Cell Phone Lot' signs from the airport approach road; 3–4 min drive to either terminal. Cell phone lot details →

Avoiding surge pricing at RDU

When surge peaks: Surge peaks Thursday–Friday 4–8pm (Research Triangle tech workforce travel) and during NC State, Duke, and UNC football and basketball home weekends; graduation weekends (May) at all three universities also spike demand.

Wait tip

RDU is a growing tech hub — Monday mornings and Thursday/Friday evenings are high-demand; request your ride only after reaching the outdoor TNC lane to avoid driver timeout in the active curb traffic.

Compare your options

Rideshare is usually the fastest door-to-door option, but it is not always the cheapest — especially during surge.
