Arrivals pickup guide
Picking someone up at Minneapolis–St. Paul (MSP)? The Cell Phone Waiting Lotis the free designated waiting area where drivers park at no charge while their passenger's flight lands and bags are collected. Below you will find exact directions, the time limit and fee rules, how to know when your passenger is ready, and what to do if the lot is full.

The MSP cell phone lot is called the Cell Phone Waiting Lot. Both lots sit on the south side of Post Road, between Terminals 1 and 2, roughly 3–5 minutes from either terminal. From I-35W northbound, take exit 9A onto I-494E/MN-5E, then exit 1A onto MN-5E toward Terminal 1, take the Post Road exit, and turn left — both lots will be on your left. From I-35E southbound, take exit 103B for MN-5/West 7th St, turn right onto MN-5, take the Post Road exit, and turn right onto Post Road.
Open the Cell Phone Waiting Lot in Google Maps for turn-by-turn navigation to the lot entrance.
No time limit. There is no charge regardless of how long you stay, but plan your timing so you pull up to arrivals right as your passenger steps outside — circling burns time and fuel, and curbside officers will wave you on if you stop too early.
Capacity: The Cell Phone Waiting Lot holds ~140 spaces across two lots: West Lot (4211 Post Rd, 40 spaces) and East Lot (4921 Post Rd, 100 spaces). On busy travel days the lot can fill up, so arrive early and have a backup plan.
Have your passenger call or text you the exact numbered curb door (Terminal 1-Lindbergh or Terminal 2-Humphrey) once they have their bags; track the flight on FlightAware or the MSP Airport website so you can time your arrival at the lot and avoid a long wait.
As a general rule, ask your passenger to text you only after they have their bags and are physically walking toward the arrivals curb — not when the plane touches down. Checked-bag passengers typically need 15–25 minutes after landing for baggage claim at domestic airports, and 45–60 minutesafter landing at international gates where customs adds extra time. Once you get the “at curb with bags” message, pull out and head straight there — a precise pick-up beats circling every time.
Wait until your passenger calls or texts you with their specific numbered pickup door at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 before leaving the lot — the drive is only 3–5 minutes so there is no need to circle early.

If the Cell Phone Waiting Lot is full, your best options are to do a slow loop of the airport access road and try again, pull into a short-term or daily parking garage (free for the first 15–30 minutes at many airports), or wait in an adjacent surface lot if one is available. Avoid stopping on the terminal curbside — officers will wave you on immediately.
Most cell phone lots, including the Cell Phone Waiting Lot, require drivers to remain with their vehicles at all times. Unattended vehicles are typically towed at the owner's expense. If you need to use a restroom or grab a snack, look for amenities inside or adjacent to the lot before committing to a long wait.
