Maps are updated when terminals are renovated or new concourses open. Terminal 5 at LAX, for example, has been closed since October 2025 for reconstruction — always confirm your terminal from your boarding pass rather than relying on a saved map.
Here is what each terminal or concourse at MSO handles — which airlines fly from it, the gate range, and key amenities to know before you go.
Concourse A was Phase 1 of MSO's all-new terminal: construction began in 2018 and the concourse opened in June 2022, replacing the airport's old 1970s-era building (demolished in 2023). It holds the airport's original post-security gates along with Kettlehouse Bar & Grill and its companion outdoor-deck space, Coldsmoke Tavern, both run by the local Kettlehouse Brewing Co. The Service Animal Relief Area (SARA) — a private, self-draining-turf room — sits next to Gate A1. Floor-to-ceiling windows and heavy use of wood and stone reflect the terminal's Montana-inspired design.
Concourse B is the terminal's second major phase. Its two new baggage-claim carousels opened May 15, 2025; the wing's gates, a second rental-car desk, and new concessions followed over the summer, with MSO Marketplace (coffee and grab-and-go) and MSO Taphouse (Montana craft beer) opening between Gates B1 and B2 on August 8, 2025. The expansion added roughly three to four gates, several with new jet bridges, bringing MSO toward a total of about 7–8 gates airport-wide; at least one ground-boarding gate remains in use. As of mid-2026 this is the newest, most recently finished part of the terminal, closing out a project that ran from 2018 and cost more than $110 million across all phases.
MSO is a single, compact terminal building. Concourse A and Concourse B sit on either side of one shared, unified security checkpoint on the terminal's upper level, reached by elevator, escalator, or stairs from the ticketing lobby below. There is no tram, train, or inter-terminal shuttle — walking from one end of the building to the other takes just a few minutes.
Timing tip
Always allow 15–30 minutes for any inter-terminal transfer at MSO — wait times for people-movers, buses, or security re-screening add up faster than the physical distance suggests. Build the buffer into your Leave-By time, not your gate arrival time.
Because the East Concourse (B) only fully opened in August 2025, some third-party map apps and older travel guides may still show MSO's pre-2025 single-concourse layout — check flymissoula.com/amenities for the current gate and dining locations before you fly. The third-floor public observation deck is also a good spot to get a bird's-eye view of the new layout while you wait for a flight.

Open your airline app about two hours before departure — gate assignments sometimes change after check-in closes. Look for departure boards throughout the terminal for real-time gate information.
