PreCheck
By the TSA Wait Times team · Updated · Published June 2026
Your Known Traveler Number (KTN) is a 9-digit number you add to airline bookings so TSA PreCheck shows on your boarding pass. Here is exactly where to find yours in under 60 seconds.

The location of your KTN depends on how you enrolled. Pick your program below.
TSA PreCheck (enrolled directly)
Global Entry (includes PreCheck)
PASSID = KTNNEXUS (includes PreCheck for US airports)
PASSID = KTNSENTRI (includes PreCheck)
PASSID = KTNActive military
Add your KTN to your frequent flyer profile at each airline once — it will automatically populate on every future booking with that carrier. For a trip you have already booked, go to Manage Trip / My Trips on the airline site and look for Edit traveler info.
| Airline | Where to add your KTN |
|---|---|
| Delta | delta.com → My Profile → Travel Information → Known Traveler Number (saved for all future bookings) |
| United | united.com → My Account → Personal details → Known Traveler Number |
| American | aa.com → Your Account → Contact and travel info → Known Traveler Number |
| Southwest | southwest.com → My Account → Edit Profile → Known Traveler Number |
General rule: add your KTN to your profile once per airline and it applies to all future bookings. The TSA PRE✓ indicator must appear on your printed or digital boarding pass for the benefit to apply at the checkpoint.
If your TSA PRE✓ indicator is missing, one of these seven causes is almost always responsible:
KTN not saved in your airline profile
Add your KTN to your frequent flyer profile at that airline — it will auto-populate all future bookings.
Booked as a guest (no account)
Go to 'Manage Trip' or 'My Trips' on the airline's site and look for 'Edit traveler info' to add the KTN manually.
KTN entered incorrectly
Double-check for typos — it must be exactly 9 digits with no spaces, dashes, or letters.
Codeshare or partner flight
TSA PreCheck only works on TSA-participating airlines operating their own flights. Codeshare legs on non-participating carriers are excluded.
Not selected by TSA's algorithm
PreCheck is not guaranteed on every flight even with a valid KTN. The system uses a risk-based algorithm — this is normal.
Name mismatch
Your KTN profile name must match your booking name exactly. A middle name or suffix difference can suppress the indicator.
Checked in too late
Some airlines require check-in before T-24 hours for PreCheck to appear. Check in as early as the window opens.
TSA PreCheck memberships are valid for 5 years from the date of approval. If your KTN has expired, you can renew online in about 5 minutes — no new in-person appointment required.
Frequently asked questions about finding your KTN:
Yes — KTN (Known Traveler Number) is the same as your TSA PreCheck membership number. It is the 9-digit number you enter in the Known Traveler Number field when booking a flight.
No — your KTN remains the same after renewal. Simply renew online at universalenroll.dhs.gov and your existing number continues to work.
CBP PASSIDs should be 9 digits (numbers only). If you see letters, you may be looking at a different field on your card or profile. Check ttp.cbp.dhs.gov to confirm your PASSID.
TSA uses a risk-based algorithm — PreCheck is not guaranteed on every flight. Some flights (random selection, one-way international legs, certain routes) may not include it even with a valid KTN. This is normal and not a sign that your enrollment has lapsed.
