PreCheck

Where is my TSA PreCheck number (KTN)?

By the TSA Wait Times team · Updated July 2026 · Published June 2026

Your Known Traveler Number (KTN) is a 9-digit number you add to airline bookings so TSA PreCheck shows on your boarding pass. Here is exactly where to find yours in under 60 seconds.

Three trusted-traveler programs stacked, each sharing one known traveler number
One number, several routes: your KTN comes from whichever program you joined, and each one feeds the same field on your booking.

Find your KTN by program

The location of your KTN depends on how you enrolled. Pick your program below.

TSA PreCheck (enrolled directly)

  • Check your enrollment confirmation email — subject line is 'TSA PreCheck Enrollment Confirmation'; your KTN is in the email body
  • Or log in at universalenroll.dhs.gov (IDEMIA/Telos) or identitysolutions.idemia.com depending on when you enrolled
  • Select 'Check My Status' and enter your email address and date of birth
  • Your 9-digit KTN is displayed on the confirmation screen

Global Entry (includes PreCheck)

PASSID = KTN
  • Your KTN is your CBP PASSID — a 9-digit number
  • Find it on the back of your Global Entry card, printed beneath your photo
  • Or log in to the Trusted Traveler Program portal at ttp.cbp.dhs.gov
  • Navigate to your profile — your PASSID is shown at the top of the page

NEXUS (includes PreCheck for US airports)

PASSID = KTN
  • Your KTN is also your CBP PASSID
  • Find it on your NEXUS card or at ttp.cbp.dhs.gov under your profile

SENTRI (includes PreCheck)

PASSID = KTN
  • Same as Global Entry — your CBP PASSID is your KTN
  • Find it on your SENTRI card or at ttp.cbp.dhs.gov under your profile

Active military

  • Your DoD ID number (10 digits on your Common Access Card) is your KTN
  • No TSA enrollment needed — simply enter your DoD ID in the Known Traveler Number field when booking

How to add your KTN to a booking

Add your KTN to your frequent flyer profile at each airline once — it will automatically populate on every future booking with that carrier. For a trip you have already booked, go to Manage Trip / My Trips on the airline site and look for Edit traveler info.

AirlineWhere to add your KTN
Deltadelta.com → My Profile → Travel Information → Known Traveler Number (saved for all future bookings)
Unitedunited.com → My Account → Personal details → Known Traveler Number
Americanaa.com → Your Account → Contact and travel info → Known Traveler Number
Southwestsouthwest.com → My Account → Edit Profile → Known Traveler Number

General rule: add your KTN to your profile once per airline and it applies to all future bookings. The TSA PRE✓ indicator must appear on your printed or digital boarding pass for the benefit to apply at the checkpoint.

PreCheck enrolled but not showing on boarding pass?

If your TSA PRE✓ indicator is missing, one of these seven causes is almost always responsible:

1

KTN not saved in your airline profile

Add your KTN to your frequent flyer profile at that airline — it will auto-populate all future bookings.

2

Booked as a guest (no account)

Go to 'Manage Trip' or 'My Trips' on the airline's site and look for 'Edit traveler info' to add the KTN manually.

3

KTN entered incorrectly

Double-check for typos — it must be exactly 9 digits with no spaces, dashes, or letters.

4

Codeshare or partner flight

TSA PreCheck only works on TSA-participating airlines operating their own flights. Codeshare legs on non-participating carriers are excluded.

5

Not selected by TSA's algorithm

PreCheck is not guaranteed on every flight even with a valid KTN. The system uses a risk-based algorithm — this is normal.

6

Name mismatch

Your KTN profile name must match your booking name exactly. A middle name or suffix difference can suppress the indicator.

7

Checked in too late

Some airlines require check-in before T-24 hours for PreCheck to appear. Check in as early as the window opens.

What if my enrollment expired?

TSA PreCheck memberships are valid for 5 years from the date of approval. If your KTN has expired, you can renew online in about 5 minutes — no new in-person appointment required.

  • Renew online at universalenroll.dhs.gov in about 5 minutes
  • Cost: $70–$85 depending on your enrollment provider
  • Your KTN stays the same after renewal — no need to update airline profiles
  • You can renew up to 6 months before your expiration date without losing time on your current membership
  • Lapsed (expired) memberships must be renewed or re-enrolled before the PreCheck lane is available again

Frequently asked questions about finding your KTN:

Is my KTN the same as my TSA PreCheck number?

Yes — KTN (Known Traveler Number) is the same as your TSA PreCheck membership number. It is the 9-digit number you enter in the Known Traveler Number field when booking a flight.

Do I need a new KTN when I renew TSA PreCheck?

No — your KTN remains the same after renewal. Simply renew online at universalenroll.dhs.gov and your existing number continues to work.

My Global Entry PASSID has letters, not just numbers — is that right?

CBP PASSIDs should be 9 digits (numbers only). If you see letters, you may be looking at a different field on your card or profile. Check ttp.cbp.dhs.gov to confirm your PASSID.

Why does PreCheck sometimes not appear even with a valid KTN?

TSA uses a risk-based algorithm — PreCheck is not guaranteed on every flight. Some flights (random selection, one-way international legs, certain routes) may not include it even with a valid KTN. This is normal and not a sign that your enrollment has lapsed.
