Maps are updated when terminals are renovated or new concourses open. Terminal 5 at LAX, for example, has been closed since October 2025 for reconstruction — always confirm your terminal from your boarding pass rather than relying on a saved map.
Here is what each terminal or concourse at FAT handles — which airlines fly from it, the gate range, and key amenities to know before you go.
FAT's original concourse, built in a 2002 expansion with six second-level jet bridges above the ground-floor baggage claim and lobby. It's the home base for the airport's legacy mainline carriers (American, Delta, Alaska, and Southwest all operate out of the main terminal/Concourse A side) and holds most of the terminal's dining — Mad Duck Craft Brewing Co., Ike's Love & Sandwiches, and Peet's Coffee — plus a Hudson News newsstand. Floor-to-ceiling windows on the concourse level look directly out over the airfield.
A brand-new concourse that opened December 17, 2025 as the centerpiece of FAT's $150 million FATforward terminal expansion. It adds about 98,000 square feet and two new swing-gate jet bridges able to handle both domestic and international arrivals, plus a Federal Inspection Station arrivals facility with triple the previous customs capacity, an arrivals lobby, and an outdoor plaza for greeting passengers. Aeromexico and Volaris flights to/from Guadalajara, León, and Morelia, Mexico clear customs here. New Concourse B tenants include a Hudson News and Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant.
FAT is a single terminal building on two levels (upper level for departures/security, lower level for baggage claim and ground transportation) — Concourse A and the new Concourse B are directly connected through the shared post-security corridor and the Arts Lounge seating area. There is no tram, train, or long connector walkway; the walk between the farthest gates on the two concourses takes only a few minutes.
Timing tip
Always allow 15–30 minutes for any inter-terminal transfer at FAT — wait times for people-movers, buses, or security re-screening add up faster than the physical distance suggests. Build the buffer into your Leave-By time, not your gate arrival time.
FAT is small enough to walk end-to-end in a few minutes, so the more useful tip is simply checking your boarding pass for Concourse A or B before you clear security — the airport's printable terminal maps were still being updated as of a December 2025 notice following the Concourse B opening, so gate signage in the terminal is more current than some third-party map sites. FAT is also the closest commercial airport to Yosemite (64 miles) and Sequoia/Kings Canyon (82 miles) National Parks, so allow extra time at the in-terminal Rental Car Center (across from baggage claim) if that's your next stop.
A few habits that prevent last-minute sprints:

Your boarding pass shows the exact gate. Open your airline app about two hours before departure — gate assignments sometimes change after check-in closes. Look for departure boards throughout the terminal for real-time gate information.
