Detroit (DTW) Airport Shopping

Shopping at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport spans convenience staples at Hudson News and tech accessories at InMotion through to local specialty gifts and duty-free for international travelers. See each section below for exact locations by concourse or terminal.

Diagram of duty-free shopping with sealed liquid bags and the rules for carrying them through connections.
Duty-free liquids must stay in the sealed store bag to clear security on international connecting flights.

Duty-free shopping

McNamara Terminal (Concourse A) has duty-free in the international gate area (A1–A20) for Delta's transatlantic and trans-Pacific departures. Standard spirits, fragrance, cosmetics, and limited luxury goods. The North Terminal has no duty-free.

US duty-free allowance

US residents may bring back $800 in duty-free goods per person. Liquids purchased at duty-free must be in the original sealed store bag when transiting international connections — otherwise they may be confiscated at the connecting airport security checkpoint.

Tech & electronics

Best Buy Express kiosks carry Apple accessories, Bose headphones, and phone chargers at most major US airports. InMotion Entertainment is the other key tech stop — open at most gate clusters and stocked with travel-oriented electronics essentials.

Fashion & specialty retail

Detroit sports team merchandise — Lions, Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons — is the specialty retail highlight at DTW. Standard airport fashion chains. No luxury boutiques. Michigan-branded apparel including University of Michigan and Michigan State merchandise available.

Best shopping area

McNamara Terminal (Concourse A) is DTW's best shopping area — the underground tram corridor between gate clusters A24 and A57 has concentrated retail including InMotion, Hudson, and the international duty-free near A1–A20. The North Terminal has more limited options.

Pro Tip

The McNamara Terminal's underground tram corridor is climate-controlled and comfortable — the retail strip between the A24 and A57 tram stations is a pleasant place to shop and grab a bite while waiting for your gate to open.
