JetBlueseat guide: economy legroom, best seats & upgrades

JetBlue economy seats pitch from 32 in (EvenMore Space: 35–37 in, exit rows up to 38 in) on narrowbody jets up to 32 in (EvenMore Space front: 35 in; exit rows 12–13: 38 in) on widebody routes. Exit rows often unlock more space for free. Here is exactly what to book — and what to skip.

How much legroom does JetBlue economy have?

Every JetBlue aircraft carries a slightly different economy layout. The table below shows pitch, width, seat configuration, and the routes each aircraft type flies most often.

AircraftEconomy pitchWidthLayout
Airbus A321ceo (Classic/Domestic)32 in (EvenMore Space: 35–37 in, exit rows up to 38 in)18 in3-3
Airbus A321neo (Domestic, no Mint)32 in (EvenMore Space: 35–37 in)18.4 in3-3
Airbus A321neo (with Mint)32 in (EvenMore Space: 35 in)18.4 inMint: 1-1 forward (16–24 seats); Economy: 3-3
Airbus A32032 in (EvenMore Space: 35–38 in, exit rows up to 38 in)17.8–18 in3-3
Airbus A220-30032 in (EvenMore Space front: 35 in; exit rows 12–13: 38 in)18.6 in (widest in JetBlue fleet)2-3 (2-seat left, 3-seat right — fewer middle seats than A320/A321)

Premium-cabin pitch varies by aircraft. See the upgrade section below for exact figures.

What are the best seats on JetBlue?

On A321 variants, book an exit-row EvenMore Space seat (row 10 on A321ceo, rows 16–17 on A321neo) for 37–38 in of pitch — the full row clears exit equipment giving you window access without a seat in front. On the A220-300, target rows 12–13 exit seats on the left (A/B side): 38 in pitch, and the 2-seat configuration means you get a window with no middle-seat neighbor and direct aisle access. Avoid paying EvenMore prices for row 1 bulkhead on any aircraft (fixed armrests, no under-seat storage).

General rules that apply on any JetBlue flight

  • Exit rows — typically 4–8 extra inches of pitch with no seat in front. Often free to select at check-in even when they cost money at booking.
  • Bulkhead rows — the most forward-cabin legroom, but tray tables live in the armrest and overhead bins may be pre-assigned to another cabin.
  • Window seat for sleep — a wall to lean against and no one climbing past you. Rows near the middle of the plane minimize wing noise and turbulence.

Which JetBlue seats should I avoid?

Last 2 rows on any aircraft (galley/lavatory noise, often non-reclining, tight quarters); Row 1 bulkhead on all aircraft (fixed armrests narrow the seat, no under-seat bag storage); A321ceo rows 22–23 (mid-cabin lavatory cluster causes foot traffic and odor); A221ceo seats 23A and 23F (windowless despite being priced as EvenMore Space); A220-300 rows 27–28 (immediately in front of rear lavatories); A321neo rows 33–34 (rear galley/lavatory, noise and reduced recline).

How to upgrade your JetBlue seat

JetBlue offers 4 cabin tiers above standard economy. Prices below are typical ranges — exact costs shift with route length, demand, and how far in advance you buy.

Cabin / productPitchTypical price
EvenMore Space (extra-legroom economy)35–38Starting at $10 one-way; typically $10–$75 depending on route length and specific seat
Mint (Business Class — A321neo transcon/transatlantic)76–80$300–$1,500+ per segment on transcon routes; $600–$2,500+ transatlantic
Mini Mint / Domestic First Class (rolling out August 2026+)36–37TBD at launch; expected comparable to EvenMore Space premium pricing ($75–$200 range)
Core Preferred Seats (aisle/window standard economy)32Up to $49 on select routes (added fee for Blue Basic; free with Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra fares)

On most JetBlueroutes, upgrading at check-in or bidding through the airline's upgrade program costs less than buying at booking.

How much does seat selection cost on JetBlue?

Blue Basic fare: fee required to select any seat more than 24 hours before departure ($4–$49 per segment, varies by route and seat position; free auto-assignment at check-in if no fee paid). All other fares (Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra, Mint): standard seat selection is free at booking. EvenMore Space: starts at $10 one-way. Core Preferred aisle/window seats: may carry an additional fee up to $49 on select routes even for non-Basic fares.

Basic economy rule

Blue Basic passengers cannot select a standard seat for free in advance. Seats are automatically assigned at check-in (24 hours before departure) unless a seat selection fee ($4–$49 depending on route and seat) is paid earlier. Blue Basic passengers also cannot select EvenMore Space seats without paying the full EvenMore upgrade fee. Mosaic elite members are exempt from seat fees on Blue Basic.
